The error message "could not connect..." can be solved a few different ways.

The first thing to try when you get that message is to just click OK.  It should then show your license key again. Click OK again and see if it will go through. If it gives you the error again, click OK, verify the license key again, then click OK one more time. That will sometimes enable it to work. Most people naturally try this, but if you haven't, please try this step.

Second, it could be an Internet Security program previously installed on your computer interfering with the software. These could include a firewall, an anti-virus, or some other program that blocks internet access for programs on your computer. If you have Norton, AOL Safety and Security, McAfee, or PC-Cillin then you will need to completely shut these down, even if they are just Anti-Virus scanners. Be warned that some of these programs will say they are shut-down, but really they keep working in the background.

Third, it could be an Internet Accelerator. Sometimes these are installed even if you don't have a Dial-up connection. To look for these, hover your mouse in the bottom right corner and look for anything that enhances the speed of your internet connection. You will need to shut it down, which can usually be done by right-clicking on the icon and finding the option that says disable, etc.

The last thing I would check is that SSL is enabled. To do this, go into Internet Explorer and click on Tools and then Options. From there, click on the Advanced tab and scroll down. At the bottom you will see SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0 and TSL 1.0. Make sure they are all checked. At the very least, the SSL options must be checked. If you can, just click Restore Defaults and then click Apply and OK. Then try running HammerTap again and see if it will connect.

If you continue to experience problems, please send a detailed description of your difficulties to support@hammertap.com.
